It is hoped that this meeting will serve as a focus to encourage involvement in treatment, public health science and policy development on tobacco use throughout Latin America, and the meeting is already being enthusiastically supported by many professionals throughout Latin America, and by key organisations like SRNT Europe and the Inter American Heart Foundation.
Over the last three years great strides have been made towards making Europe smokefree. Momentum is growing and smokefree legislation is now a realistic option for most countries. This conference will present new research evidence on the health, behavioural, social and economic impacts of the legislation from Scotland, Europe and elsewhere; outline new policy initiatives; and provide a forum for discussing approaches to the development and implementation of smokefree legislation. This international event will bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners with the overall purpose of mobilising further effective action on smokefree legislation.
