  • Tobacco Cessation and Addiction Recovery

    "Tobacco Cessation and Addiction Recovery" will be presented on June 30, 2009; 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; by Jason Schwartz, LMSW; Clinical Director, Dawn Farm; and Matt Statman, CAC-M; Dawn Farm Education Series Coordinator. This workshop will describe the prevalence of tobacco addiction among alcoholics and drug addicts, the relationship between tobacco use and recovery, and tobacco cessation techniques helpful for recovering alcoholics/addicts. This workshop is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series, a FREE, annual workshop series. Programs are free and open to anyone interested in attending, including people with a personal or professional interest in the topic. Registration is not required. 1.5 hours of free C.E. approved by MCBAP (Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals) is offered for each workshop. A certificate to document attendance is provided on request. The Education Series is organized by Dawn Farm, a non-profit community of programs providing a continuum of chemical dependency services.     The 8th Annual Conference of the International Society for the Prevention of Tobacco Induced Disease promises to be a great opportunity for all stakeholders in this critically important area of global health to come together, exchange views, share new knowledge, and push forward the fight against tobacco induced disease This conference will be unique in that it will be the first one that it will take place in Africa, continent that tobacco epidemic is highly increasing. This conference will be a great opportunity to exchange view in tobacco control strategy and different component of this strategy. The health professional role in tobacco control will have a good place in this conference by focusing in smoking addiction mechanism and therapy, and the role of health professional to manage this addiction. The World Health Organization has launched The Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), now ratified by 163 to date.
