End March	Completion of report and recommendations by Mr Maaten MEP (the Parliament’s rapporteur on the Directive)
17/18 April	Consideration of Mr Maaten’s report Subsequently: submission of amendments by individual members of the committee
22/25 May	Debate on amendments and vote in committee (or possibly at an extraordinary meeting of the committee during the previous week in Strasbourg)
12/15 June	Debate and final vote, Plenary Session, Strasbourg
Consideration by the Health Council
29 June	Deferred meeting of the Health Council
The meeting of the Health Council was originally scheduled for 11^th May. This has now been postponed until 29^th June, in the hope that it will be possible to reach a ‘common position’ (i.e., agreement between the Parliament and the Council) under the Portuguese Presidency. France takes over the Presidency on 1^st July, and would become responsible for steering the Directive through the Council if agreement is not reached by that time.
