MEET DOCTORS AGAINST TOBACCO IN FINLAND

During the conference members of the Finnish network Doctors Against Tobacco (DAT) will be present for discussing special issues about smoking.

DAT in Finland was founded in January 1995 and it has at present app. 100 members who are physicians and dentists. The aim of DAT is to countract the common disposal of tobacco products and develop the society to more smokefree direction. Especially children should be protected against advertisement of tobacco.

Of Finnish males smoke at present 27% the figure having been more than 60% thirty years ago.

Of females 19% are smoking. Unfortunately, young boys and girls of an age less than 18 years smoke more frequently, 25% of both genders.

Physicians have personally been conscious about the noxious effect of tobacco as only 5% of doctors in Finland smoke. The figure for male doctors is 7% and for females only 3%.
