LITIGATION IN ENGLAND & WALES

My firm has been appointed as the co-ordinators of legal claims against the tobacco industry in the United Kingdom. We have 300 clients who have been granted legal aid to enable investigations to be carried out as to whether the legal action should be pursued against the tobacco companies.

My talk will describe the basis for the claim in terms of the breach of duty of the tobacco companies in failing to minimise risk by the reduction of tar and nicotine in cigarettes and as to the progress of these cases, not least in terms of the granting of legal aid in the United Kingdom.
