"WHEN EDUCATION GOES UP IN SMOKE" a 4-year intervention to make school-premises smoke-free environments
- AUTHORS: J Falk, P Bøge, M-M Davidsen
- INSTITUTIONS: The Danish Council on Smoking and Health, Danish Cancer Society and Danish Heart Foundation, Copenhagen, Denmark
The objective is to influence all 2400 Danish primary and secondary schools in a 4 year period to make schools improve their smoking policies. Schools shouldn't be a place children could learn to smoke. First step took place in 1992. It consisted of a great survey and a report concerning smoking habits and attitudes. A similar survey was made in 1995 and the results are based on this.
The presentation will focus on the results, the strategies, methods and elements in this successfully intervention - and will present the advantages (and difficulties) of the narrow collaboration between three health promoting organizations - one governmental and two private.
As a consequence of the collaboration three authors will make the presentation.
