RESULTS AND ROLE OF "QUIT AND WIN" CAMPAIGN IN FORMING OF ANTI-TOBACCO POLICY WITHIN CHELYABINSK REGIONAL CINDI PROGRAMME

"Quit and Win" campaign (1994,1996) was conducted in our region within CINDI programme. Close contacts with working group on smoking under the leadership of Prof. P. Puska and coordinator Dr H.Korhonen allowed to use the international experience in this contest. In 1994 4018 participants took part in the contest (0, 5% of smokers-men and 1, 1% of smokers-women) . Such low per cent among smokers is due to high prevalence of smoking in Chelyabinsk region (61, 6% in men, 4, 3% in women). During 1 month period 49,3% of respondents stopped smoking, in 1 year period - 62,2% accordingly) . During the 2 contest (1996) the response has been received from 1132 respondents. Per cent of stop smokers during 1 month period exceeds the same in 1994 and constitutes 63,3%. Summing up both contests we can make the conclusion that the new approach in antismoking campaign consisted in close international collaboration and creation of positive motivation possesses the high efficiency, economic profitableness and promotes forming of the policy related to smoking cessation in mass media and in society.
