European Network on Young People and Tobacco (ENYPAT)

stablished in December 1993 and managed by ASH Scotland (UK) until December 1996, Enypat is now hosted by KTL (National Public Health Institute of Finland) and supported by an Advisory Board which includes one representative from each European Union Member State. This action is funded by the Europe Against Cancer Programme of the European Commission.

Aims and objectives

To contribute to the reduction of smoking amongst young people by facilitating the ex change of information and know how between the various agencies and disciplines involved in smoking prevention for young people in Europe.

Whom does the network serve?

People working in the fields of young people, tobacco and health and who wish to share their ideas, knowledge, expertise and collaborate with colleagues throughout Europe. The main interest groups participating in Enypat include programme managers, researchers and policy makers.

What does the network offer?

access to relevant information through a classified directory of agents, a catalogue of initiatives and Enypat's information service;
the opportunity to participate in collaborative actions at European level;
a regular bilingual newsletter, Interaction, with details of new initiatives and research; an opportunity for members to publicise their work, to advertise for collaborative partners and to make announcements;
the opportunity to participate in an interactive network and to contribute to task forces on specific topics;

The official working languages of the network are English and French. All publications and services are free of charge for network participants.

The network has:

Held a conference (Edinburgh 1995)
Collaborated with other networks (e.g European Network on Smoking Prevention)
Set up task forces on specific topics (e.g evaluation)
Set up projects at European level (e.g Smokefree Class Competition)
Contributed and been represented at international events

New activities include:

Encouraging the development of wider and more coherent collaborative programmes involving several member states in the European Union.
Increasing collaboration with other international organisations
Improving the accessibility to information (e.g placing Enypat's database on Internet) n
