Chapter ten

Smokefree network

Smokefree network is a programme initiated by Folkhälsan, Association of Pulmonary Disabled, Finnish Heart Association and Cancer Society of Finland to promote nonsmoking at the local level. The programme started in August in 1995 and it«s also carried out in Swedish.

The central objective of the programme is to build an action network of specialists who regionally and locally support nonsmoking. Co-operation groups have been established in participating locations and the members of these groups are local representatives of the organisations, a representative for the health authorities, and representatives from other organisations as well as educational and vocational institutions. The co-operations groups form a basic network, for which they seek new parties to co-operate with. These parties can be, for instance, sports associations, the police, commercial centres, hairdressers, unemployed persons' associations and major work places.

It is also a goal of the programme to establish local info points which promote nonsmoking. There you can find help to fight the addiction, acquire telephone advise, lecture services and the info point also has a readiness for participating in various occasions that promote your health.
