METHODS

            Data were collected from the following sources:  tobacco industry documents resulting from various state class action lawsuits (http://www.tobaccoarchive.com); Federal tax returns filed by the MRA for the tax period ending June 1993 through the tax period ending June 1998; public relations materials; news articles; testimony from public hearings; requests for injunctions; court decisions; economic impact studies; handbooks; private correspondences; and additional public records.
