There are now 16 million smokeless tobacco users in the United States, and total

consumption has increased to 61 million pounds in 1996 from 30 million in 1981.

More than half of male high school seniors have tried chewing tobacco, and free

samples are handed out at rodeos, rock concerts, and stock car races.
