In Turkey, 63% of adult men and 25% of women (including 48% of doctors) were

smokers in a 1988 survey, and the country of 62.5 million people (in 1995) ranked

sixth in the world in cigarette consumption. In a survey of children ages 7 to 13 years,

14% of boys and 9% of girls had smoked, and either one or both parents of 66% of

children were smokers.
