In Taiwan, smoking prevalence is 60% for men and 5% for women. Total

smoking-related deaths were 15,000 in 1995. Lung cancer deaths increased by

460% from 1971 to 1995; it is estimated that smoking contributed 65% and increased

air pollution 30% of the lung cancer increase. Smoking is also related to an increased

risk for hepatocellular carcinoma in Taiwan.
