| | Smoke-free worksite policies help employees to reduce or discontinue use of |
| | tobacco. In a study of 8,300 smokers in 22 cities in the United States and Canada, |
| | employees who worked in a smoke-free worksite were over 25% more likely to make |
| | a serious quit attempt, and over 25% more likely to achieve cessation than those who |
| | worked where smoking was permitted. Among continuing smokers, employees in |
| | smoke-free worksites consumed an average of three fewer cigarettes per day |
| | compared with those who worked in areas with non-restrictive smoking policies. |

| | unprecedented by any other intervention, and smoking cessation is also prompted by |
| | workplace bans. |

| | disease in smokers to a far greater degree than any health benefits for nonsmokers. |
